Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is used for seasoning and food.
It has an aniseed favour. The word foeniculum in Latin means
fragrant hay. In Middle ages, the plant was placed on the door
to ward off the evil effects of witchcraft. Herbalist crushed the
seeds of fennel to make eyewash which is believed to be
effective in the treatment of conjunctivitis.
