As an optical system, the eye is more adaptable and more complicated than the most sophisticated camera
in the world. The optical system of the eye has three camera-like features: “lens” system (cornea and lens), 
diaphragm (iris), and film (retina). Our understanding of the human optical system is helped by the pioneering 
works of some of the scientists featured in this section.
