Saints
St. Lucia (1971)
The Patron Saint of the Blind - St. Lucia. St. Lucia or St. Lucy is the patron saint of the blind.
There are several legends attributed to her. One legend mentioned her as a devoted  Christian
living in the 4th century Sicily who was tortured for her belief.  She later plucked out her eyes
and sent them to her torturer. In painting, she is always holding a pair of eyes in one hand.
The island country of St. Lucia in the Caribbean is so named because it was discovered by
Columbus on the 13th December, 1494 ; a day known as St. Lucia's day amongst the Roman
Catholics in honour of this Sicilian Saint.
