The plant eyebright is also known
as Euphrasia officialis. The word Euphrasia is of Greek origin,
derived from
Euphrosyne (gladness) the name
of one of the three graces who was distinguished for her joy and mirth.
Her properties were given to the
plant as an eye medicine preserving eyesight and so bring gladness
into the life of the sufferer.
Herbalists recommend its use in diseases of the eyes such as conjunctivitis.
It is often used as a lotion. |
