The Zeiss factory is world renowned for the production of fine optical instruments including the operating microscope. Carl Zeiss (1816-1888) s German optical engineer was the founder of the factory. He was aided by Ernst Abbe, a physics lecturer in Jena University, Germany. When Zeiss died, Abbe took over the factory and became its president.
