44th Esperanto Congress was held in August, 1959 at Warsaw, Poland, where
Zamenhof was born, commemorating the 100th year
from his birth. It is estimated that 300000 people in the world are conversant with the language. While Esperanto did not gain the popularity Zamenhof intended it still marks the brave attempt of an individual to spread peace through a common language.
