Jean-Martin Charcot (1825-1893) was a renowned professor of neurology and psychiatry at 
Salpetriere Hospital. He described many diseases and pathology processes which
were named after him. He described a progressive muscular disease involving the legs
called Charcot-Marie-Tooth's disease which is associated with optic atrophy.
