Step 6: Effect change
The purpose of an audit is to seek ways of improving the existing clinical practise.

Therefore take or recommend action specific to any problems identified and their causes.

Resistance to change may occur following an audit and this may be caused by:

  •      Threat of the new
  •      Implied criticism of the past
  •      Personal loss and gain

 To minimize irritation to change:

  • Emphasize the benefits of change
  • Implement incrementally
  • Involve staff early
