Step 3: Develop criteria and standards
Before setting these you need to know what the evidence is for best practice,
and how to find it. The Royal College of Ophthalmologists published ophthalmic audits at regular interval. These results can be used as criteria and standards. Alternatively, recommendations from clinical guidelines can be used.

Criteria is a measurable statement e.g. DM eye checks should be done yearly.

Standard or target is the degree to which the criterion should be met e.g.DMs
should have retinal exam yearly (90%).
