| This French FDC marks the 200th Death Anniversary
of the pioneering ophthalmologist
Jacques Daviel (1693-1762). He introduced the modern method of cataract operation by extractingthe lens through cornea incision. The traditional method of cataract operation was to dislocated the lens into the vitreal cavity by the technique called couching.
